The Saddleback Butterfly, also known as a Double-saddle Butterfly, Falcula Butterfly, Falcula Butterflyfish, Indian Double-saddle Butterflyfish, Pigface Coralfish, or Sickle Butterflyfish.

The Saddle Butterflyfish has a massive and black “saddle” with white lines in the upper rear part of the body as well as the dorsal fin. Orange coloration is found on the lower half of its face as well as outlining the black tail. The base color is gray with several blue-gray stripes on the lower body.

In the wild Saddleback Butterflyfish can be found in pairs or small schools, over current swept reef edges, and upper slopes of reefs. The Indian Ocean where it can be found from eastern Africa to Indonesia. It likes environments effected by powerful current and rarely ventures below 15 meters / 50 feet.

Saddleback Butterflyfish are not reef-safe and could devour all stony corals some soft corals and even invertebrates that inhabit any live rock. The Saddleback Butterflyfish will do best in a 125 gallon or larger aquarium with plenty of swimming space and well-maintained water quality. Saddleback Butterflyfish are omnivores and need a diet rich in both green and meaty foods. Foods such as mysis and brine shrimp, spirulina and high-quality flake and pellet foods will really help your Saddleback Butterflyfish thrive in your tank.

Saddleback Butterflyfish are semi-aggressive fish and will mostly only bother other butterflyfish over territory. When adding multiple butterflyfish, it’s best to add them at the same time. Saddleback Butterflyfish should not bother other fish.
