The Raccoon Butterfly (Chaetodon lunula), is a peaceful fish that may reside in a 125 gallon or larger fish-only aquarium with other butterflyfish. The beautiful Raccoon Butterflyfish has a yellow-orange body with various thick black stripes and a black mask over its face.Two black stripes bordered in yellow reach from the white stripe to the dorsal fin.

Raccoon Butterflyfish are not considered reef safe. The Raccoon Butterflyfish is a hardy Butterflyfish that is well known for eating almost any type of anemone. This is especially useful if you have problems with Aiptaisia or Majano anemones. It should not be kept in a reef tank since it will eat some of the inverts that are essential to keeping a thriving reef tank.

If you intend on keeping more than one Raccoon Butterflyfish in your aquarium it is best to purchase two of the same size and introduce them to the aquarium at the same time.

Raccoon Butterflyfish are omnivores and need a diet rich in both meaty and green foods. When first acquired, if it will not eat, it may be tempted with a small anemone. Once acclimated, it can be fed a varied diet of vitamin enriched brine shrimp, spirulina, nori, seaweed, marine algae, algae based foods, several times daily, will help your Raccoon Butterflyfish grow and flourish.
