Scrambled Egg Zoanthids are known for their bright, sunny appearance. They typically have a vibrant yellow or golden center, resembling the color of scrambled eggs, with a green or sometimes dark orange ring around it. The skirt is often a contrasting color, like bright green or neon yellow, which enhances the overall vivid look. This cheerful and eye-catching combination makes Scrambled Egg Zoanthids a popular choice for reef aquariums.

Here's how to care for them:

  • Lighting: Moderate to high lighting is ideal. They will thrive under LED, T5, or even metal halide lighting. Too much light may cause them to close up or bleach, so it's essential to observe their response and adjust if needed.

  • Water Flow: Moderate water flow is best. This helps keep them clean from debris while providing enough movement to support their growth. Too much flow might cause them to close up.

  • Water Parameters:

    • Temperature: 72-78°F (22-26°C)
    • pH: 8.1-8.4
    • Alkalinity: 8-12 dKH
    • Salinity: 1.024-1.026
    • Nitrates and phosphates should be kept low but not undetectable, as zoanthids can benefit from a bit of nutrient in the water.
  • Placement: Place them in a location where they get moderate flow and light. They are adaptable but will expand more fully when conditions are optimal.

  • Feeding: While they are photosynthetic and get much of their energy from light, target feeding with small foods like zooplankton, reef roids, or other coral foods can enhance growth and coloration.

  • Propagation: Scrambled Egg Zoanthids spread by budding. Given proper conditions, they will grow new polyps and slowly expand across the rock or frag plug.

  • Pest Control: Keep an eye out for pests like zoa-eating nudibranchs, flatworms, or algae overgrowth, which can hinder their growth. Regular dips (e.g., coral dips) before introducing them to the tank can help prevent pests.

Scrambled Egg Zoanthids are resilient and a great choice for both beginners and experienced reefers.
