The Red Hairy Hermit Crab, Dardanus sp., is a semi-aggressive, larger hermit crab with hairy red legs. They can be aggressive towards smaller hermits and even be found nibbling on corals. It is bright red in color with small white spots. Its legs are covered with fine hairs and its pincers are large. It can grow to about 15 cm (5.9 in), so extra shells are a good thing to have around for the Red Hairy Hermit Crab to move into.
They will act as scavengers, like most other hermits, and eat algal residue and detritus keeping your tank clean.
