The Red and Green Favites War Coral has an impressive burst of color, that is sure to draw attention in any reef aquarium. The main body has a deep red pigmentation with a brilliant neon green eyes. The intensity of the neon green and red pigmentation help to give this coral a fascinating coloration combination.
The Red and Green War Coral is an exceptional color variety of Favites, a large polyp stony (LPS) coral often referred to as Moon, Pineapple, Brain, Closed Brain, Star, Worm, or Honeycomb Coral. A very beautiful coral that grows rather quickly for a Favites especially when well fed. It grows by encrusting over rockwork. An easy coral to feed that will grab passing food as it extends it's feeding tentacles taking on an almost fluffy appearance.
Care for the Red and Green Favites War Coral is relatively easy, making it an excellent choice for the beginner to expert hobbyist. It is important to leave space between the Red and Green Favites War Coral and neighbors in the reef aquarium, otherwise they will use there long sweeping tentacles to attack other corals.
As well, War Coral requires moderate lighting combined with moderate water movement within the aquarium. For continued good health, calcium, strontium, and other trace elements should periodically be added to the water. This precarious species of coral would benefit from the addition of supplemental food in the form of micro-plankton or brine shrimp, fed twice per week in the evening while its tentacles are visible.
