CLASSIFICATION: (Sympodium sp.) Soft Coral
The Blue and Green Sympodium, is one of the most desirable soft coral species available. It looks almost floral in its structure making it quite the unique soft coral, with polyps that resemble Xenia, Anthellia, or Clove Polyps in appearance. The Blue and Green Sympodium is a wonderful addition to any tank and is especially suited for beginner aquarists for its ease of care.
This encrusting soft coral boasts magnificent coloration enhanced by its compact colonial growth habit. Its rich deep blue hues are unparalleled in the marine trade and with greenish jade pinnules, Sympodium is distinctive and beautiful in both growth and color.
Blue and Green Sympodium grows throughout the reefs and shallow lagoons of the Indo-Pacific ocean. It is fast growing, propagates easily, and is usually found encrusting rocks. Given proper aquarium conditions, Blue and Green Sympodium will quickly spread over areas of the reef that it has access too.
For this reason it is recommended that hobbyists isolate the coral on rocky formations that are placed at least a few inches from other portions of the reef. This will allow the hobbyist to both get a feel for the rapid growth of the coral and allow its growth to be controlled since it requires a hard surface to grow on and will not grow onto a sandy substrate.
It requires moderate to high lighting, moderate waterflow, and weekly feedings of micro-plankton or foods designed for filter feeding invertebrates is recommended. For continued good health, the Blue Sympodium Polyp will require the addition of iodine and other trace elements to the water.
