Often confused with its cousin the Picasso Triggerfish. The Humu Rectangle Triggerfish, also known as the Wedge-tailed Trigger, or the V-line Humuhumu is an awesome addition to your fish only reef tank!

Besides its beautifully bright colors and perfect geometric markings, it is also known as Hawaii’s state fish, that features a distinct body shape and a thick dorsal spine. At a glance, this triggerfish has a beautiful pearly white face and two blue and black stripes across the eyes. It is also, recognized by the black V-pattern outlined in yellow that highlights the posterior section of their bodies.

They are not reef safe and should not be kept in reef aquariums. They will eat invertebrates and can damage or tip over corals when they try to rearrange the décor. It has strong jaws which can be used to crush and eat sea urchins, crustaceans and hard-shelled mollusks.

Classified as Rhinecanthus rectangulus, it is found at reefs in the Indo-Pacific. The Humu Rectangle Triggerfish will use its unique body shape to wedge itself into crevasses in the rock for protection - so they should be kept in tanks of at least 100 gallons with plenty live rock.

The name Humu Humu (triggerfish) comes from Hawaiian and Humuhumu-nukunuku-apua'a refers to the pig-like snout that it uses to "root" around the reef. It is supported by the grunting noise the species may make when removed from the water.

Diet: They will accept most every fish food that you put into the tank but you need to give them a varied diet of chopped frozen seafood, frozen preparations for herbivores, frozen mysis and frozen krill.
