The Spotted Mandarin Goby is also known as the Yellow Target Mandarin Goby or the Psychedelic Mandarinfish. Though this animal is commonly referred to as a goby, this name is misleading. The Yellow Target Mandarin is a Dragonet in the family Callionymidae. Its body, fins, and head are covered in an explosion of patterned colors ranging from blue, orange, and black spots on a green base. Males may be distinguished from females by their more-elongated first dorsal spine.
In the wild the spotted mandarinfish typically inhabits shallow reefs and protected lagoons. This means the Spotted Mandarinfish will require an well-established 30 gallon or larger reef aquarium with plenty of live rock and a sandy substrate for survival.
Diet: Like all members of the dragonet family the Spotted Mandarin spends most of its day searching the tank for copepods and amphipods as its main source of nutrition. So it is recommended the reef aquarium have a good population of amphipods and copepods.
This fish will also help to prevent brown flatworm infestations, which can be trouble for some reef aquariums. It is not overly aggressive towards other fish, except for conspecifics.
