The Clown Tang (Acanthurus lineatus) is also known as the Clown Surgeonfish, Lined Surgeonfish, and Blue-banded Surgeonfish, is an active as well as a beautiful species, which makes a valuable addition to any aquarium. The body is oval and laterally compressed. They have a white belly with alternating blue and yellow running down the body and orange/yellow pelvic fins.
It grows large and is one of them most aggressive tang species towards other Tangs, Surgeonfish, and fish with similar body shapes or feeding patterns – especially new additions – so get this fish as one of the last fish to be introduced to your system.
Also, Clown Tangs should be housed in an established, well-filtered aquarium of at least 250 gallons in size, with moderate water movement and strong biological and mechanical filtration is recommended with the addition of an efficient protein skimmer.
The Clown Tangs will spend most of its day swimming and strolling around the scenery grazing on algae and is beneficial in helping pick at hair algae, the Clown Tang will spend their day picking at rockwork in search for hair algae to eat.
Clown Tangs will eat meaty foods, but it is important that they are offered plenty of marine based seaweed and algae. This will strengthen their immune system, reduce aggression and improve their overall health.
